Surfing in Cornwall is awesome, there are so many amazing spots to surf all along the Cornish coastline. Cornwall is easily the surfing capital of the UK.
My personal favourite is Godrevy where I like to visit at least twice a week (weather permitting).
Some of the best surfing beaches include:
Fistral Beach, Newquay
Easily the most well-known beach in Cornwall. At the right time of year, you can catch some mega waves here. It is also the location of one of the biggest pro surfing competitions in Europe. The infamous Cribbar which occurs a few times a year when the conditions are right produces massive waves up to 30ft and is a mecca for brave, big wave surfers.
Perranporth Beach, Perranporth
Perranporth Beach is massive and very popular, given the right conditions you should be able to get some good surf here. On average the Penhale end tends to get the best waves.
Polzeath Beach, Padstow
This beach does get waves but they probably are not as powerful as the other beaches in this list, This is a great place for beginners as it is quite sheltered.
Gwithian/Godrevy Beach Near Hayle
This is my usual beach, there’s a lot of space so there is plenty of room for everyone. There’s a National Trust car park which means free parking if you are a National Trust member like me. It’s a very windy beach and at time of writing, there’s been a lot of onshore winds so it’s been a bit mushy but still fun nonetheless.
This is a great beach to surf, it picks up a lot of swell so waves can be pretty powerful here on the right day.
Praa Sands Beach, Helston
This is another beach that is a few miles away from me but I haven’t actually surfed here yet. Praa Sands is definitely one of the most well-known surf locations in Cornwall. There’s a big beach so there is plenty of space.
Porthmeor Beach, St Ives
This is another beach I frequent on occasion. Under the right conditions, you can get some powerful waves here. It’s the best beach to surf on if you are staying in St Ives. Otherwise, head further up the coast towards Hayle and Gwithian/Godrevy Beach.
Sennen Beach, Sennen
Sennen is one of the most Westerly surfing spots in Cornwall. Because it is just around the corner from Lands End it is very exposed. Conditions can be pretty good when there is a South Westerly wind.
